Vincent’s Bookends was not written to fix grief. It offers no steps, no timelines, no clean edges. It was written from inside loss, not from a safe distance after it. While writing, I came to see that much of what I was living through was shared by others, even when it felt unbearable and singular.
One of the hardest parts of grief was the sense that no one could see what was happening inside me. That belief created a kind of isolation I did not expect. Over time, through reading and listening to others, I learned something important. Feeling lonely does not always mean being alone.
